Kenya is located in the East Africa region of Africa.
There are several traditional stories regarding the origin of the name Kenya.
One is that the Kamba community called it Keenya, meaning the place of snow, due to the snow at its peak. Now the European visitors were unable to pronounce the word Keenya, hence the adaptation to Kenya.
Another story is that while the Kikuyu people called it Kirinyaga or Kerenyaga, meaning mountain of whiteness, the British found the names too long and opted for the shortened version of Kenya.
